This lizard are known only from the coastal zone of northern Eritrea, having been recorded from localities that include the Wakhiro River Valley, Massawa, Zula and Dahlak island. Throughout its range, the species is associated with very arid environments, including coastal dunes, desert oases or other open and sandy areas, but favours places where there are bushes, grasses or rocks to provide some shelter, though in the absence of such cover the animal will create its own burrow.
